Meet Joe

Joe Vandenberg, lead clinical herbalist and founder of Black Hills Botanicals is a lifelong local of the beautiful Black Hills region. As a lover of nature since childhood and an avid student of herbalism since 2017, Joe is constantly broadening his understanding of the human predicament and all the ways in which our health is integrated into our environment. Joe has studied clinical herbalism through several schools including Herbal Academy and the School of Evolutionary Herbalism while also under the direct tutelage of some of the greatest herbalists of our time, including Jim McDonald and Matthew Wood. He is co-founder and master blender at the Spearfish, SD based company Sage & Cedar Herbal Tea Co. and spends most of his time doing something adjacent to herbalism, in one way or another. For Joe, herbalism is not simply a doctrine, hobby, or vocation, but rather, an entire way of being.
